On-going research in social psychology

Our ongoing research study is a study of individuals living with 'serious mental illness', and who have been with psychiatric medicines for a few years each. We have enlisted the support of individuals from the whole country towards this study- with a fixed number in mind.

At this juncture we are meeting with the individuals who are volunteering with their stories, to understand better from their first person accounts. Within this year this data would be gathered and we would be in a position to share the outcome of that.

Mansa- Scope and Work

Mansa operates in the district of Faridabad, Haryana for its community level operations. For the rest of our work, we operate pretty much anywhere in India. We work at two extremes of the spectrum of mental health- on the one hand towards prevention of mental illness in young people and on the other extreme in the rehabilitation of those suffering from serious mental illnesses.

It is our effort to look at the epidemiology of mental illness as well as spread the scope of mental health, to multiple populations, across the spectrum. We intend to address the various mental health needs of Faridabad, addressing multiple populations as well as filling the critical gaps in services towards mental wellness of the Indian population.

Our research work shall be disseminated on all national and global fora as per requirement. The appeal and scope of our research shall be broad-based, though it shall be relatively culturally specific, around the Indian people. In no way shall our research efforts be confined to Faridabad only.

One of our current ventures is in the area of severe mental illness and we support such individuals everywhere who are looking at alternatives for recovery from mental illness, apart from mainstream psychiatry options. We work towards creating individualized plans for recovery.One of the key focus of our work is to help in the rehabilitation of those suffering from long-term mental illness.

We strongly believe that people can recover from all sorts of serious mental illnesses if they are supported by an enabling environment and support-systems around them. Towards that end we offer all forms of assistance, including art-based interventions, individual counseling, family counseling, talks, lectures, peer-support.

We are keen to develop a community based model of mental health and solicit the participation of all agencies towards that end.
